Astrida Schaeffer Historical Sewing SeriesAstrida Schaeffer has been making reproduction historical clothing since 1986 and custom museum mannequins since 1998. Her mannequins have appeared in museums across New England and have been published in several books as well as Costume in Performance, 2007 Historic Fashions Calendar. She has sewn for Strawbery Banke Museum, Plimoth Plantation, the American Independence Museum, and the Pavane Renaissance Dance Ensemble, among others, and is in the process of writing a book on 14th century clothing. As soon as that's finished she has plans for another on Victorian embellishment.

Victorian Trims YOU Can MakeGet a visual tour of 19th century gown embellishments to inspire you, then make a sampler of Victorian cording, pleating, ribbon, applique, and self-trim techniques. Victorian Trims and EmbellishmentsGet inspired by 19th century gown embellishments with author and costume historian Astrida Schaeffer. Learn how the Victorians thought about design and then make a sampler of the piping, cording, pleating, ribbon and applique', and self-trim techniques that made their clothes fabulous. Each class includes a visual tour of Victorian gowns handouts, and hands-on instruction. Take your own textile projects to the next level!. Medieval MethodsUse medieval finishing and decorative methods to make a unique modern hat or scarf. You'll learn edge-weaving, corded applique, self-stuffed buttons, and a spot-quilting technique called boutis. Renaissance Revival PurseThe Renaissance loved embellishment, and now you can bring that richness of detail to a clutch purse you'll never want to put down. Pearlwork, slashing, braidwork, and goldwork make this over-the-top fabulous! Jane Austen's WrapThe early 1800's were a classical fashion style, deceptively simple until you looked at the details. This class uses four self-fabric methods to embellish a light cotton wrap.
